Spencer McCleave - Contemporary Artist
I'm Spencer McCleave, artist in Tucson, Arizona. I grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
As a child I took classes at what became the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Like many kids who like art when young, I stopped at some point thinking "I can't draw." Whatever start I had made was further disrupted by medical school and a busy career.
I kept taking classes from time to time in art history, photography, drawing and such, which helped keep my interest in art alive, but real productivity and growth in the field did not begin until retirement.
Current interests include drawing in pen and ink, charcoal, and graphite, along with painting in oil and acrylics. I lean toward the representational, mostly doing figures, portraits, still lifes and landscapes. I've done a few abstracts which can be lots of fun.
Being a perpetual student, my style has not yet solidified.
I'm a member of The Drawing Studio, the Sonoran Plein Aire Painters group and the Contemporary Art Society, all in Tucson, Arizona.
